About BJMK

The Latvian association "Children and Youth Music Club" (BJMK) is a non-governmental organization which is based mainly on the musical spirit of its members. Each of our members has their own sound. All together, we make one big piece of music. The beginning of our song was made by Endijs Rozenbergs and Zane Reinberga in October 2004 when they decided to create BJMK in Jelgava. Why? I suppose because they love music. Children\'s and Youth Music Club is bringing together the most talented and friendly instrument teachers and young people with an interest in music for more than four years. BJMK offers children and young people to play classical, electric and bass guitar. It is also possible to learn drums, singing, piano, saxophone, harmonica and also several theoretical subjects such as music theory, ear training, solfege, rhythmic dictation and ensemble playing. Also BJMK has a musical theater for children and a baby school called "Mazulis". The aim of our Children and Youth Music Club is to build young people's interest and understanding of music, despite the person's socio-economic background. Also notable is that we have a comfortable and informal atmosphere. The teachers communicate with their young peers on the same level! We're all friends here, which leads to a healthy communication. We also take into account that not every student has their own personal instrument (ex. drums), therefore BJMK provides the needed material in the building itself. During all those years the number of children and youngsters who have attended BJMK grew over 500 and at least 30 teachers. BJMK has established an important role in the daily life of their students. For example in making concerts, jam sessions and master classes, competitions or simply to go on holidays, discussion evenings, etc... Also BJMK is hosting a creative camp for musicians from all over Europe, during which they develop their skills and enjoy the international atmosphere. Additionally, our club organizes a summer camps just for children every summer. Furthermore, BJMK participates in various international projects and exchanges. We have two European Volunteers each year and one of them is translating the text right now. BJMK members have the opportunity to participate in youth exchanges outside of Latvia, as well as to host other young people in their own country. Our newest venture is the creation of the first rock school in Latvia in August 2008 called "Baltic Young Musicians School", whose purpose is to prepare young musicians for their future musical careers. BJMK is one of the most active non-governmental organizations and is constantly evolving. Each one of us has their own sound, new ideas and the strength to make it work.
